I'm an iPhone user and am seriously considering getting an Android for my next phone. I mean, I'm satisfied with the iPhone but want to consider all my options. I don't ask much of my smartphone, what I look for more than anything is a fast web browser, which my iPhone was consistently good at. Besides that, I just want something reliable, with a fast UI. Again, my iPhone was great at that. But with my iPhone 4 getting up there in age, I'm starting to consider getting a new phone. Just wanted to consider Android and see what you all thought. Trying to think of reasons to switch to an Android... |

I mean, maybe I'd be better off with the iPhone. Customization doesn't matter to me and I've been with Apple since the first iPhone, before it was really a big thing. Never really had a reason to change, but I am considering the Nexus 4. |

Wow, never thought I'd ever hear someone on an Android forum say that. Thanks! I might do that. |

That's far from true for all Android phones. Mine outpaces an iPhone 4s on browsing quite easily. OP, what carrier are you on? The new Nexus isn't out yet, and no doubt it will be a beast, but models vary by carriers and we may be able to recommend other choices to look into as well. __________________| Minutus cantorum, minutus balorum, minutus carborata descendum pantorum. If you don't demand much from your smartphone, why pay for the upgrade? The reason I stick with android is how well it interacts with all the various google products I use. Syncing between chrome on my desktop, laptop, and phone is easy. I have all my documents anywhere I need them via google drive, I sync up all my appointments over all my devices via google calendar, and I have the full google maps experience. Besides that, I was able to get what is arguably one of the best phones out for $350 contract free. Try that with an iPhone. |

1) Choice: there is only one iPhone model available to you. There are hundreds of Android models, and dozens of screen sizes to choose from. But since you're happy with what your current iPhone does for you I would save myself a couple hundred bucks and stay with this 'old' iPhone for another year or so. Yes, Androids can do much more than what you want, but you don't want that. So why get one? Or even a new iPhone? |

DOWNEY, Calif. (AP) ? A gunman targeted a family-owned fire extinguisher business Wednesday, gunning down three people at the office and shooting two more at a family home nearby, police said.
Three of the five victims died and the two survivors, including a 13-year-old boy, remained in critical condition, said Downey police Lt. Dean Milligan.
The violence began just after 11 a.m. in this working class city about 20 miles southeast of Los Angeles when someone from United States Fire Protection Services Inc. called 911 to report a shooting. A couple minutes after police arrived, the injured 13-year-old called dispatchers from the house down the same street, Milligan said.
A suspect fled in a 2010 black Camaro that belonged to a victim or a member of their family.
"We do not believe this was a random act of violence," Milligan said. "We do believe there is a specific reason this family was targeted and we want to know why."
Police declined to release the identities of the victims pending the notification of family members, but a neighbor said the fire business is owned by a group of brothers.
Dean Wright, who owns the septic supply business next door, said he didn't hear gunfire, but the sound of someone yelling, "hey," caught his attention. When he looked outside, police officers with guns drawn surrounded the building.
One of the owners he identified as Robert told him that the gunman shot his mother in the face, injuring her, and killed a secretary. At the family's home, the shooter fatally shot the wife of another brother and injured the teenage boy, Wright said.
Wright wasn't sure about the identity of the fifth victim, but police said a man was also killed at the business.
Wright said the two dead women each had three children.
"So now there are six children without mothers because of this idiot," Wright said. "It makes me just want to throw up."
The woman and teenager were originally at the business, but somehow got to the home in the Camaro before being shot. Police don't yet know if they drove themselves or were kidnapped by the suspect. There was no sign of forced entry at either location and police believe the suspect spoke with the victims at both locations before the shooting began.
Authorities were initially concerned about the safety of a small boy, age 4 or 5, related to the victims, but he was found unharmed at school.
The suspect does not appear to be a former employee, friend or family member and the teenager did not recognize him, Milligan said.
Police have not been able to interview the woman survivor at length because of her injuries. Witnesses told other news media that they saw her bleeding from the head outside the business.
No witnesses to the shootings other than the victims have come forward and police were reviewing surveillance footage in hopes it would give them a glimpse of the shooter.
United States Fire Protection Services is in an industrial strip across from a large Coca-Cola Co. bottling plant. The family owned business sells professional firefighting gear and equipment such as hoses and extinguishers, according to its website.
In the first hours after the shooting, as news media gathered outside police tape, a man who said his wife worked at the business showed up at the crime scene and said he needed to know if she was safe.
An officer pointed him toward a command post and he pushed past cameras and paced frantically with a cellphone to his ear before leaving a few minutes later.
Blanca Parker, who works in another business on the street, said the owners were very friendly and very aware of security.
"They were hard working," Parker said. "They worked seven days a week, 24-7."
Wright, who has owned the House of Wright for 40 years, said the area is relatively safe, but he said the fire business had a robbery a few years ago.
"I've never seen nor heard of anything close to this," he said. "I was driving to work this morning and thanking the good Lord for how much I love coming to work."
He said he'd have something else to think about now.

The Facebook Effect: Marketing Will Never Be the Same
By Samantha Porter
The Past
Not too terribly long ago, marketing was a nearly unilateral discipline: corporate executives targeted customers through television, print, and direct-mail ads, and then sought to influence them almost as an all-knowing parent seeks to steer a child. However, the Internet and the rise of Web 2.0 have effectively dismantled this brand of top down marketing in favor of a customer driven marketplace that hinges on customers talking to one another.
Today?s consumers are much more interactive than they have been in generations past. They rank, ?like,? and ?friend? their favorite products online while writing scathing blog posts about those that they feel have failed them. As a result, most companies (or at least those bent on staying open) have created entire social marketing divisions with the goal of reaching out to consumers online as well as through more traditional means. Simply creating a social networking presence is rarely enough, however. Companies that do not understand today?s Internet dynamics can end up doing more harm than good, as the landscape is often more complicated than it seems at first.
The Shift
Social media?s transformation from a purely personal networking platform to one where customers are wooed and products promoted was slow, but profound. Sites like Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace began as tools that could bring people together. Friends shared photos, thoughts, and anecdotes from daily life. The tone was personal, casual, and in many ways designed to mimic daily life. Rather than meeting up after school or at the coffee shop, people gathered online, keeping each other updated through a series of short messages and updates. Before long, organizations began building profiles and pages. Ad campaigns coursed through social networks, and manufacturers started encouraging discussion and dialogue online. Promotions, discounts, and exclusive offers were provided to people who signed up for updates, ?liked? certain products, or retweeted positive corporate messages.
Today?s consumer is much more demanding when it comes to information; something corporations have had to adjust to. ?Previously, we could market to our customer any way we wanted?we held the proverbial cards,? Forbes magazine said in an article about the contours of new social media marketing strategies. ?Now, as consumers have ?choice,? social has changed that. Consumers want specific content and information at all stages of their buying journey.?
The Metamorphosis
The result is a marketing strategy that has to be adaptable in order to succeed. Engaging in social networking is about a lot more than simply opening a profile and hiring an intern to manage comments and facilitate discussion. Senior-level executives need to understand the fluidity of the medium, and react to changes in consumer likes and demands almost before the consumers realize they have changed their views. This takes finesse?and a lot of learned savvy.
?Social marketing lacks a formulaic model that one can put on a PowerPoint slide and show to the Board of Directors. Instead, like a relationship, it is fluid, not formulaic, with a tone of equality between consumer and creator,? Nilofer Merchant, a corporate director and lecturer at Stanford University, wrote in a Harvard Business Review blog post. Getting good results often takes a lot of work, not to mention a shifting of focus.
Companies who have invested the time and expertise to get social networking right have typically reaped great rewards. According to British small business magazine Director, 69 percent of small businesses who used social networks for marketing in 2011 felt it helped them compete with larger businesses in their sector. An additional 53 percent of businesses using social networks to interact with consumers were pursuing a ?growth strategy,? which was helping them plan for a more lucrative future than those who were focused primarily on offline or passive marketing.
Leveraging the power of social media for marketing is one of the biggest industry trends. Jumping on board is not necessarily difficult, but nevertheless must be done carefully. Companies who approach the online marketing world cautiously and rationally are usually the best poised for success.

Kashmir: India has to go back By Zaheerul Hassn
According to the spokes man of All Parties Hurriyet Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir since 1989 to 15 October 2012, total killing of innocent individuals were 93,801, Custodial Killings in various camps and jails were 6,996. Overall 1, 20,392 individuals have been arrested, structural damaged have been done to the property was 1, 05,955. Moreover 22,764 women have been injured and suffered with severe injuries, 10,042 women have been gang raped or molested and over 1, 07,441 kids have become orphaned.
?Kashmir Movement? basically started on the day when British have sold their territory. However, in 1931 struggle against Dogra rule came on lime lines when for the first time in the history, Kashmiri people openly opposed the cruelty of the rulers. In same year on July 13, twenty one (21) Kashmiri Muslims faced bullets and were martyred in Srinagar Central Jail. This day is known as Martyr Day of Kashmir and reminding us the blood of liberators.
According to the partition plan, Hindustan was supposed to be divided on the religion bases into two major states Pakistan and India. The instruments of agreement relating to the Partition of India, the rulers of princely states were to be given the choice to freely accede to either India or Pakistan. They were also asked to take into account the demographic nature, history, geography and future prospects of their subjects. British?s never respected the rights of Kashmiri people; once again they left them on the mercy of Heri Sing in 1947. The Maharaja of Kashmir Hari Sing went against the will of predominantly Muslim majority and announced annexation of Kashmir with India. Actually almost 78.9% Muslims, 11.2 % Hindus and 8.6% Buddhas were inhabitants of Kashmir. The annexation of Kashmir with India was resulted due to an under hand deal between India and Lord Mountbatten.
Thus, the conspiracy against newly created Islamic state has been started that can be ascertain from these two too facts, firstly, latest changes of partition plan has restricted to Punjab boundaries till Ferozepur , according to initial Plan Floura ( Indian City now ) would have been the boundary line between Pakistan and India . One of the vital purposes of changing the partition plan could be that single land route leading to Kashmir started from Pathan kot should fell into the Indian lap. Second fact could be established from Jagmon?s book ?My Frozen Turbulence in Kashmir?. In that book he quoted Maharaja Hari Singh?s letter of October 26, 1947 to Lord Mountbatten and latter reply to Maharaja on October 27, 1947. He stated that Maharaja Hari Singh said, ?The conditions obtaining at present in my state and the great emergency of situation as it exists?. Hari Singh further reveled that they do not have any option but to ask for help from Indian Dominion?. He further explained that naturally they cannot send the help as asked by the Singh of India. Author of the book ?Jagmom? have also expressed that Hari Sing against the will of the Kahsmiri nation had decided to attach the instrument of accession for acceptance and informed to the English rulers.
In turn, Lord Mountbatten consented Hari Singh?s request and decided to accept the accession of Kashmir State to the Dominion of India. Lord Mountain has assisted Hari Singh while landing the troops to maintain law and order in Kashmir.
A book ?Kashmir in Conflict? has unveiled the plot and indicated that Hari Singh did not reach Jammu until the evening of October 26. Anyhow, due to poor flying conditions, V P Menon was unable to get to Jammu until the morning of October 27, by that time Indian troops have been landed in Srinagar. Therefore, Maharaja?s act of fraudulent has been proven because he would not have written the letter to Lord when agreement with Pakistan was already in force. In short capturing of Kashmir against masses desires have already been planned between Hari Singh, British?s and Indian rulers.
On this fraudulent act of Hari and Britishes, Kashmiri and their Muslim brothers stood up for snatching their rights from the aggressors and prepared the force of locals Mujahids who started their march toward Jammu & Srinagar. On October 22, 1947 Pashtun tribesmen from North West Frontier Province of Pakistan, came all-out for the help of Kashmiri Muslims. The struggles of locals for their rights converted into first Indo & Pakistan war. India started defending the stance of Heri sing and physically landed her forces on Srinagar Airport. The war which started actually on October 21, 1947 has lasted in December 31, 1948. India occupies roughly 101,387 km? of Kashmir. Pakistan occupies 85,793 km? (Later divided into Azad Kashmir (13,397 km?) and Northern Areas (72,496 km?). The UN decided that the fate of Kashmir will be decided in a plebiscite by the incumbents of the area.
Anyway Indian rulers always tried to crush the Kashmiris through brutal actions of their armed forces. India always ignored UN resolution. Recently, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari while addressing UN forum, stated that Jammu and Kashmir was a sign of UN ?failure?. President Zardari?s statement was objected by Mr. Vinay Kumar, Minister Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations. In the 67th Session of the United Nations General Assembly Mr. Kumar stated, said that Jammu & Kashmir is and has always been an integral part of India. In fact, Indian Government and its agents might need to attend a refresher course before they are sent as representatives to the United Nations.
Kashmir was one among 560 princely states which had two choices before them; accession to India or to Pakistan at the time of partition. The majority Hindu states were either occupied or voluntarily join India. Given that Jammu & Kashmir is a Muslim majority, it is only just for it to accede to Pakistan. India has no legitimate claim on the people of Kashmir. Irony of the Issue is that Indian leadership does not want to live with peace and is reluctant to implement UN resolution on Kashmir. According to ?Times of India? report of October 22, 2012, Indian Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on attacked Pakistan for fomenting terror in India, He accused that Pakistan is helping infiltration bids into Indian Territory and organizing attacks on military convoys in J&K to spread fear.
On contrary to it, India is involved in cross-border terrorism against Pakistan and dispatching terrorists in Balochistan and FATA while using Afghan territory. Her propaganda is aimed at negatively influencing the public opinions on terrorism and matters related to Indian armed forces brutality in Kashmir and Maoists area.
Firing on Malala Yousafzai has also been carried out by Indian supported group of Taliban ?TTP?. The Indian home minister statement is giving clear indication that New Delhi is not serious in resolving regional the most sensitive matter of Kashmir. Concluding, I would like to say that world community should interfere to resolve the issue between two nuclear states since any Indian misadventure may lead the world in new global nuclear war. In short India should respect the Kshmiri?s opinions leave Kashmir and let Kashmiri decide to their fate.
