Steve Bartlett, the former Dallas mayor and congressman, is stepping down at the end of the year as president and CEO of The Financial Services Roundtable. The Roundtable represents 100 major banking, insurance and financial institutions with a combined $92.7 trillion in managed assets. It's one of the premier trade group jobs in Washington.
"Steve Bartlett has had a highly successful 12 ? years leading the Roundtable and shaping it into the high-powered advocacy group it is today," said Tom Wilson, the Roundtable's current chairman, and chairman, president and CEO of Allstate Corp, in a statement today announcing the departure. "The strength of the organization will enable us to continue to focus on leading change that ensures the financial markets support the economic recovery to create jobs and economic gains for our customers. His vigor and passion for the financial services industry will truly be missed by his Board of Directors, his members, and his staff."
Bartlett, 64, was elected as a Republican to the U.S. House five times starting in 1982. He resigned in 1991 to run for mayor, serving at City Hall for four years.
